As our Mining Engineering and and Geology Team Leader at Datamine, Pedro Ladeira has over 10 years of mining experience. In recent years, Pedro has been responsible for providing consulting for several customers using his knowledge and experience in mining planning with huge impact for our customers with their planning and optimisation.

We’ve shared more about Pedro in the interview below:

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I am a mining engineer with experience in both open pit and underground mining. My specific expertise is in planning, feasibility studies, business improvement assessments and team management. I am originally from Brazil and enjoy living in Perth, particularly playing sports at the beach!

Can you explain some of the challenges you consult to your clients on in a few sentences and how you help them improve?

Normally I come across with a range of challenges in consultancy work. The majority of mine planning services have a similar issue which is the complexity to modelling the planning objective in a software package. I have been assisting our customers to translate their mining method particularities to applications which can validate and conceptual projects in an operational plan. The milestone service in my career was truckless system modelling for one of the biggest mining projects worldwide (+100MTPY).

What inspired your career in this industry?

I have always been fascinated by the engineering world and of the options I could choose, mining was the most exciting. The existing room to evolve the mining projects towards a sustainable level gives me an extra motivation to face this conservative industry.

What is the most satisfying aspect of your role / the work you do?

Working for Datamine is definitely a non-common workplace where we are exposed to a variety of activities, however the most satisfying aspect of my role is reached at the end of each project where I can see the achievable results.

What are your best memories from your career?

The best memories are related to the different places the mining consultant role gave me the opportunity to visit. Such as the mountains in Andes, Amazon forest, countryside of Brazil, Australia and Europe.

What’s a fun fact about you?

I drove 400km at night when I had just arrived in Australia. However, it was my first time driving on the right side. I am glad that the Kangaroo’s and I are still alive! 😊
