Job Description

The Global Business Development Manager is a newly created role designed to support the ongoing profitable growth ambitions of Datamine worldwide.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this position is responsible for executing a comprehensive global sales strategy and go-to-market plan to grow Datamine’s market presence across our full portfolio of offers.

Success in this role will be realised across numerous KPIs, including but not limited to:

  • Retaining and uplifting existing revenue streams within designated key customer accounts.
  • Hunting for, and securing new cross-sell and upsell opportunities within those nominated accounts, based on strong relationships developed and nurtured through a customer-first mentality.
  • Prospecting and securing new logos / customer accounts, leveraging a strategic, enterprise-selling mindset and a value-driven engagement across the full portfolio.

The ideal candidate will possess demonstrable experience and success in similar roles (minimum of 8 years, preferably more than 10 years), combined with a deep understanding of the mining industry, as well as the software and technologies that support and enable improvement across the full mining value chain.

The ability to competently represent Datamine and act as a trusted advisor to our mining clients will be a key strength of this individual. A natural problem solver, the successful candidate will develop long-term partnerships between Datamine and our clients, underpinned by the value we deliver.

Responsibilities

  1. Sales Strategy and Execution:

    • Develop and deliver a strategic sales plan to penetrate and expand key global markets to achieve revenue targets.
    • Identify key market segments, customer profiles, and industry trends to tailor sales approaches and effectively position Datamine solutions.
    • Manage key accounts and ensure alignment with required sales objectives, metrics, and KPIs.
    • Provide accurate and timely revenue forecasts aligned with probability-weighted pipeline considerations.
  2. Business Development and Relationship Management:

    • Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, from technical managers to C-level executives and decision-makers within mining and resource companies worldwide.
    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities by leveraging industry contacts, attending conferences, and participating in relevant industry events.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, service delivery, and product management, to align sales strategies with market needs.
    • When appropriate, collaborate with the broader Vela and Constellation Software portfolio companies to maximise cross-sell and upsell opportunities globally.
  3. Market Expansion and Revenue Growth:

    • Drive market expansion efforts by owning full responsibility for nominated key and growth accounts where strategic sales opportunities can be developed globally.
    • Develop and execute go-to-market strategies for new product launches and global initiatives.
    • Monitor market trends, competitive landscape, and customer feedback to identify opportunities for product enhancements or new offerings.
  4. Contract Negotiation and Deal Management:

    • Lead contract negotiations and manage the full sales process from initial engagement to deal closure.
    • Collaborate with legal and finance teams to ensure compliance with internal policies and legal requirements.
    • Maintain deep understanding of customer needs and ensure successful implementation and ongoing support.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of success in enterprise and strategic sales, preferably in software or technology solutions within the mining industry.
  • Prior exposure and expertise with Datamine’s software portfolio (or similar competitor solutions) is a plus.
  • Background or exposure across a core mining discipline such as Geology/Geoscience, Mine Engineering/Planning, Metallurgy/Mineral Processing, or another mining value chain domain.
  • Strong understanding of how specialised software applications deliver tangible value to mining organisations, with the ability to develop value propositions and ROI-based business cases.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Geology/Geosciences or a related field (MBA preferred).
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in a quota-carrying role, managing both transactional and strategic sales pursuits and exceeding revenue targets.
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking, with a focus on revenue growth and market expansion.
  • In-depth knowledge of the global mining and resources sector, including key industry players and customer dynamics.
  • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills, with demonstrated success closing both technical and complex enterprise deals.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and a strong personal drive for achievement.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage at all organisational levels and build trusted relationships with senior executives.
  • Willingness to travel frequently internationally.

Compensation

Remuneration commensurate with skills and experience will combine a fixed salary and on-target performance earnings. Includes uncapped earnings potential with attractive accelerators for overachievement.
