With the end of the year in sight and the festive season upon us, I’d like to thank all our customers, partners and staff for their ongoing positivity and determination through a challenging period.  In 2020 we had to adapt to delivering services remotely, and this continued throughout 2021 with the added demands of onboarding and training many new clients and employees through a significant period of growth. I hope you all have an opportunity to rest and reflect with family and friends over the holiday period.

Celebrating our 40th year in business has been a great reminder to us at Datamine to think about the long term. Increasing focus on ESG issues and expectations prompts all of us to think beyond the next quarter and to consider sustainability in our decision making.  As we transition towards a low carbon future, it has become clear what an important role mining will play in providing the critical inputs to support accelerated adoption of low emissions technologies. Whilst this creates opportunities with increased demand, there is more we can do as an industry to reduce our impact on the environment, look after the health of our employees, and deliver greater transparency to our full range of stakeholders.

It was exciting to announce a new dedicated ESG business unit in early December, and we look forward to supporting our customers with valuable technologies that can improve performance across the ESG spectrum.  Our ESG group will make it easier for customers to navigate, understand and benefit from Datamine’s existing solutions like Qmed for workforce health, Discover for environmental management and Centric for governance and transparency.  In 2022 we will be making further investments in our range of ESG products and services, and we look forward to bringing these to the market as a comprehensive suite focussed on the specific needs of the mining industry.

Beyond ESG, ongoing investment will deliver improvements across our full range of services and technology in 2022. Some of the themes you will continue to see next year include;

  • Improved integration to deliver a seamless experience across our product range
  • Workflow and performance enhancements to get tasks done faster and easier than ever before
  • Connected mobile apps to improve the user experience in the field
  • A growing team of consultants to provide advice and professional training to help you develop the next generation of engineers and geologists

As our team continues to expand, it has been important for us to maintain the culture and family values at the core of Datamine since its inception in 1981.  It has been very pleasing to see the alignment of core values in the groups that have joined us throughout the year, Centric Mining Systems, Qmuzik and most recently Optiro.  The shared values of friendship and caring for each other and our customers have made working together enjoyable and rewarding. This environment makes it easy to foster collaboration and innovation, and we look forward to bringing more exciting products to the market that draw on the combined expertise and creativity in our broad group of over 600 professionals.

We expect 2022 will throw some curve balls and new challenges as the world continues to respond to the pandemic, but we can face this with confidence and optimism that as a team we can prevail. Our shared satisfaction comes from enabling our customers’ success, and we are excited by the opportunity to support you to achieve your business and personal objectives in the coming year and beyond.  Happy holidays!
