I was born and raised in West Bengal, in eastern India, and now live in New Delhi. I am naturally curious and positive, and I enjoy learning and connecting with people. Outside work, I love literature, classical music, spending time with family and friends, and discovering good food.
I completed an MSc in Geology at Presidency College, Kolkata, before joining Hindustan Zinc Limited, part of Vedanta, as an Exploration Geologist directly after graduating.
Working on greenfield and brownfield exploration projects for base metals and gold gave me valuable hands-on experience in field geology, mapping, data collection, geological interpretation and exploration planning.
These early field experiences provided a strong foundation for my career. The analytical thinking, adaptability and teamwork I developed continue to be highly relevant to the projects I work on today.
Joining Datamine allowed me to connect this field experience with geological modelling and mine planning. Combining practical geological knowledge with modelling software expertise has helped me understand the complete workflow from observations in the field to geological models, mine planning and informed decision-making.
I believe this end-to-end understanding is extremely valuable for any geologist working in the mining industry.
Can you share a training programme or customer support experience that best showcases your expertise at Datamine?
Every Datamine training programme is unique and provides a valuable learning experience. I strongly believe that technical training and customer support should be two-way exchanges: I learn from customers while helping them gain greater value from Datamine solutions.
The first training programme I delivered at Datamine will always be special. I tailored the sessions to the customer’s workflow and focused on explaining both how to use the tools and why each method was appropriate. Receiving excellent feedback from the entire team on the final day was a memorable and personally meaningful moment.
Another highlight was delivering Studio RM training for an iron ore customer working with a geologically complex dataset. I based the training on the customer’s own data and challenges, demonstrating how the team could apply Datamine tools effectively and gain more value from its geological information.
My goal is always to leave customers with greater knowledge, confidence and the ability to work more effectively and independently.
What is your role when supporting and training Datamine customers in India?
My role at Datamine India is to serve as a technical consultant, trainer and, most importantly, a trusted point of contact for our customers.
I work closely with customers to understand their geological workflows and technical challenges, recommend practical solutions, deliver tailored hands-on training and troubleshoot software issues.
Day-to-day customer engagement is an important part of my role. Through regular calls and follow-ups, I learn about customers’ concerns and ensure they feel heard, supported and valued.
Strong customer relationships go beyond resolving individual technical issues. They are built through clear communication, consistency and trust. My goal is simple: to help customers succeed with Datamine solutions while developing strong, long-term relationships.
What are some of the most common challenges customers face when learning or using Datamine solutions?
Customers often need to adapt established workflows to a new software environment, work with complex or inconsistent datasets, determine the correct workflow for a particular geological problem, or select the most appropriate parameters and methodology.
They often understand their geology and operational requirements extremely well but need support translating that knowledge into an efficient Datamine workflow.
One particularly challenging experience involved delivering Studio RM training to a coal customer using the team’s own dataset. The objective was not simply to teach the software, but to help the customer determine how its existing data could be used to establish a practical geological workflow.
Rather than beginning with a demonstration of individual software functions, I first sought to understand the customer’s data, geology, current workflow and expected outcomes. I then divided the problem into smaller steps and explained the Studio RM tools and workflows most appropriate for each stage.
This experience reinforced an important lesson: customer support is not always about having an immediate answer. It is about listening carefully, understanding the real problem and working with the customer to identify the most appropriate solution.
Every challenging question is also a learning opportunity that strengthens my knowledge for future customer engagements.
What impact can effective training and day-to-day technical support have on a customer’s work?
Effective training and day-to-day technical support can make a significant difference to how confidently and efficiently customers use Datamine solutions.
Good training helps customers understand not only which tools to use, but also why and when to use them. Regular support gives them confidence that assistance is available when challenges arise and demonstrates that their needs are valued.
I have seen customers improve the consistency and efficiency of their workflows following training by reducing manual steps, selecting more appropriate tools and applying better practices to their own project data.
Regular calls, follow-ups and technical discussions also help us understand customers’ progress and identify challenges early. For me, the real impact occurs when customers move from simply using the software to confidently applying it to solve their own technical problems.
This creates long-term value, strengthens customer relationships and builds greater trust in Datamine.
What makes great customer support and training, and how does this influence the way you support Datamine customers today?
Great customer support and training are built on listening, understanding the customer’s real needs, communicating clearly, remaining patient and following up consistently.
Every customer has different experience, data and technical challenges, so support should be practical and tailored rather than based on a one-size-fits-all approach.
For me, Datamine’s role is not simply to deliver a software solution or provide a few days of training. It is about ensuring that customers feel confident and reassured that ongoing support is available whenever they encounter challenges in their day-to-day use of the software.
This is why I focus on regular communication, follow-ups, technical discussions and hands-on guidance. I also treat every interaction as a learning experience, using customer questions and workflows to continuously strengthen my own knowledge.
Ultimately, great support is about building trust, confidence and long-term customer relationships not simply resolving a single technical issue.
What do you enjoy doing outside work?
I love literature and classical music, as well as spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy discovering good food, learning new things and connecting with people.
