Personal & career background
What first sparked your interest in the mining industry or mining technology?
My interest in mining was driven less by the industry itself at first, and more by the scale and complexity of the problems it presents. Mining sits at the intersection of operations, capital intensity and, increasingly, data. As I spent more time around industrial and technology-led businesses, it became clear that mining is one of the sectors where better decisions, powered by better data and software, can have an outsized impact. That combination is what pulled me in.
Can you walk us through your career path and what led you to join Datamine?
My career has consistently centred around growth, building markets, developing client relationships and scaling commercial functions across different regions. I have worked in technology-driven environments where the focus was on translating complex solutions into real business value for clients. Joining Datamine felt like a natural next step: a global leader in a highly specialised space, with strong products and a clear opportunity to further expand its commercial footprint.
What motivated your move into a business development role within the mining software space?
Business development in this space is about more than selling software. It is about influencing how companies operate and make decisions. The shift towards digitalisation in mining creates a real opportunity to help clients unlock efficiency, improve safety and drive better outcomes. That level of impact is what makes the role compelling.
Your role & expertise
What is your area of expertise, and how does it support your role?
My core expertise is in global commercial strategy, building pipelines, entering new markets and developing long-term client partnerships. I focus on aligning product capability with client needs and creating structured, repeatable growth models across regions. At Datamine, that translates into expanding our reach while strengthening strategic relationships with key mining operators.
How would you explain your role to someone unfamiliar with mining technology?
At a simple level, I help mining companies get more value out of their operations by connecting them with the right software and solutions. That means understanding their challenges, identifying where technology can improve outcomes and building partnerships that deliver long-term results, not just one-off transactions.
What excites you most about joining Datamine?
The combination of market position, product depth and opportunity. Datamine has a strong foundation, but there is significant room to grow, both geographically and across the value chain. Being part of that next phase of expansion is what is most exciting.
Challenges, projects & learnings
As someone new to Datamine, what has been your biggest learning curve so far?
Understanding the full breadth of the product suite and how it fits across different stages of the mining lifecycle. The challenge, and the opportunity, is connecting those capabilities into a cohesive value proposition for clients.
What early achievement or milestone are you aiming for?
Building a strong, qualified global pipeline and securing a few strategic wins that demonstrate the value of a more integrated, partnership-led approach to business development.
What challenges do you anticipate, and how will you tackle them?
Mining is a relationship-driven industry with long sales cycles and high switching costs. The key is credibility, demonstrating both technical understanding and commercial value. My approach is to focus on trust, consistency and aligning closely with client priorities rather than pushing products.
Perspectives & reflections
What are the key trends shaping the mining industry today?
Digitalisation, data-driven decision-making and increasing pressure around sustainability and efficiency. Companies are looking to do more with less, optimising operations while reducing environmental impact, and software plays a central role in that transformation.
What advice would you give to someone looking to move into business development in this space?
Focus on understanding the client’s business before the product. Technical knowledge matters, but credibility comes from being able to connect solutions to real operational and financial outcomes.
What motivates you in a client-facing, growth-oriented role?
Building something over time, relationships, markets and measurable growth. Closing deals is important, but the real motivation comes from creating long-term partnerships that deliver sustained value.
Fun & forward-looking
What attracted you to Datamine specifically?
Its reputation, global footprint and the strength of its solutions. It is a company with deep domain expertise and a clear opportunity to further scale. Also, the people I met during the interview process impressed me with their knowledge, passion and engaging personalities, which underscore the culture here.
What’s one misconception about mining or mining software?
That it is slow to change. In reality, the industry is evolving quickly, particularly when it comes to adopting data and technology to improve performance.
What are you most excited to contribute in the coming months?
Driving a more coordinated global business development approach, bringing consistency to how we engage markets while unlocking new growth opportunities across regions.
